Pumpkin Patch

We are growing pumpkins for our upcoming Country Fair on Sept. 11. The question is, will the pumpkins be ready? Several folks, Ingrid, Claire, Linda and Robin, contributed pumpkin seeds and plants. Robin found pumpkins sprouting in her compost pile from last Halloween’s pumpkins. It’ll be interesting to see what type those turn out to be. We have 6 hills with pumpkins, gourds and sunflowers (we think the sunflower fairy planted those).

We created the hills by putting down cardboard on the grass and covering it with a mixture of dirt and compost. It seems to be working fine. The weather is not the greatest for growing pumpkins, I think they like a little more heat.

I’ve included some pictures of the garden also. The garden plots seem to be loving the weather. A little sun, a little rain, they really grow. I only planted one tomato plant but I’m glad I restrained myself. The tomato plant is huge!

  1. The pumpkins are coming along beautifully! And somehow a beautiful little tomatillo slipped in as well!
